Scheduled your BBL? What to buy before your surgery.

Here's everything you need to have before getting a BBL.

You've decided to get a Brazilian butt lift. Now what? Once your surgery date is scheduled, there's still a lot to do to prepare. Whether you're traveling or getting the procedure locally.

I know this time can be VERY stressful, so to ease some of the worry I have put together a list of must-haves and nice-to-haves (with a travel list!), approved by the BBL-ers*, to help you have the least stressful experience as possible.

*Remember that this is a suggested list. Please consult with your doctor for any item they recommend you purchase.

To-Do:

  1. Schedule Labs (if they're not done by surgeon - surgeon should provide instructions)

  2. Schedule lymphatic massages for after the surgery (if your surgeon doesn't provide, and recommends)

Must-Haves:

  1. Maxi dress or something loose fitting that's easy to slip on and off after surgery. I personally suggest a true wrap dress. Here is one I found on Amazon; CLICK HERE

  2. Female urinal (won't be able to sit after surgery).

  3. Anti-bacterial soap to clean your incisions (usually provided or prescribed by your doctor).

  4. Neosporin for drain sites after they're removed.

  5. Alcohol pads to make the area sterile before (if) taking your Heparin shots (to prevent blood clots).

  6. Q-Tips to clean around incision sites.

  7. Gauze pads & medical tape to redress drain tubes.

  8. Easy slip-on shoes (so you don't have to bend over and tie them).

  9. Compression stockings to help prevent pulmonary embolism.

  10. Compression Sleeve (only if you're getting arm Lipo).

  11. A big pair of panties in case that time of the month arrives.

  12. BBL pillow to protect your booty after surgery. (You can also use a Boppy Pillow for those moms out there that kept theirs in storage.)

  13. An extra compression garment or "faja".

  14. Epifoam or board/foam to wear under garment for comfort and a smoother compression.

  15. Arnica tablets to help with bruising and swelling.

  16. Stool softener/laxatives.

  17. Pre-op vitamins and post-op protein shakes to help repair body.

  18. Have some funny movies available for entertainment – humor always speeds recovery!

Doctor Recommended Before your surgery (Consult with your doctor before):

  1. Hibiclens (anti-microbial skin cleanser).

  2. Thick gauze, also known as abdominal pads or surgical pads. These are usually found at your local drug store. They are used over the incision sites to absorb drainage.

  3. Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) – 325 mg tablet you should begin taking this medication one month prior to your surgery, as well as after your procedure until your doctor orders you to discontinue it.

  4. Magnesium Citrate (not to be confused with milk of Magnesia) – to be TAKEN AFTER SURGERY if needed for constipation.

  5. Prescribed medications prior to surgery day.

  6. One cylinder bean bags for you to sit on after surgery.

  7. Two garments (one is usually provided).

  8. Adult diapers.

  9. Arnica gel for post-procedure massages; you may want to purchase it for massages at home. Also recommend taking Arnica pills as directed by the manufacturer. These can be found GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe.

  10. Large plastic bags (garbage bags that can be split with scissors if needed) to place under your bed sheets, on the car seat for the ride home or follow up visits and over rugs if needed. These are used to prevent staining to your mattress, car seat or flooring. You will drain fluid for the first 3-4 days after surgery.

  11. Mylanta – Sometimes patients experience heartburn (re-flux) after the surgery.

Nice-to-Haves (But Not Absolutely Necessary)

  1. Suction hooks to hold up drains while showering.

  2. Sugar scrub (sugar and olive oil) for your pre-surgery shower.

  3. Body scrubber to help reach an itch.

  4. Hand lotion.

  5. Firming lotion.

  6. Empty bottle to put syringes in.

  7. Bathrobe.

  8. Socks to put over compression stockings.

  9. Old towels/linens/shower curtain to keep from staining new linens.

  10. Neck/body pillows.

  11. Chux Pads.

  12. Pills organizer.

  13. Mederma Cocoa Butter (for scars).

  14. Chapstick/Vasaline, something to keep your lips from getting dry.

  15. Band-Aids to cover incisions.

  16. A good camera to document your journey.

  17. Folding chair to assist going to the bathroom (cut out the bottom of the chair and position it over the toilet).

  18. Yoga mat to place behind knees.

If You're Traveling, Don't Forget:

  1. Toothbrush/toothpaste.

  2. Body wash and baby wipes.

  3. Fill doctor prescriptions before leaving.

  4. Protein powder shakes, fruits and veggies.

  5. Reusable tote/bag to carry stuff in.

  6. Ponytail holders.

  7. A good camera to document your journey/any electronics you'll need.

  8. Shaker cup if you're bringing protein shakes.

Hopefully this helps, and if you have any other suggestions please let me know in the comments.
